Veteran Sudbury school board trustee Marcel Montpellier was recently honoured by the Franco-Ontarian Association of Catholic School Boards (AFOCSC).

Montpellier, a trustee with Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) since 1992, was presented with the Catholic Education Award of Excellence.

The award recognizes his contributions to French-language Catholic education in the province.

Montpellier has served as both president and vice-president of CSCNO during his times with the board. He's sat on the AFOCSC board of directors numerous times as well.

During his mandates as president, Montpellier oversaw the completion of a variety of school construction, renovation and consolidation projects, as well as directly contributing to the creation of French-language school boards in Ontario in 1998.

“Through his constant efforts, Marcel is an outstanding ambassador who contributes to the development and expansion of French-language Catholic education across the province,” said CSCNO's current president, André Bidal.

“Marcel stands out for his ability to lead concerted collective reflections on important issues. His strong belief in the value of French-language Catholic education is reflected in his discussions.”

“Marcel is proud to be an accessible Francophone Catholic role model,” said Lyse-Anne Papineau, Director of Education at the CSCNO.

“The CSCNO is fortunate to have been able to count on this great leader as its president for many years and as a school board trustee for more than 20 years. What a pleasure it is to be able to work with a dedicated man of such convictions, who cares so much for the welfare of students, staff and colleagues."
