The Aboriginal Best Start Hub Agency Advisory Committee will host its first Aboriginal Cultural Standards Conference on Thursday Nov. 2015 at St. Andrew’s Place.

The conference will be a forum that allows for open discussion, learning, and expression. It will foster a basic understanding of cultural principles, protocols, and the history that affects today’s community.

The advisory committee says the conference will be an opportunity to celebrate and share Aboriginal culture without barriers.

The morning will include a welcoming from the Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger, representatives from

local First Nations, and the master of ceremonies, Will Morin.

The event will include presentations from cultural advisors, representatives, and elders.

Presentations will include cultural sharing, personal experiences, and information concerning proper cultural protocols including (but not limited to) smudging, medicines, ceremonies, and drum care.

Registration will take place from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Everyone is welcome to attend and the event is free, though a donation of canned food or children’s toy is always appreciated.

For more information contact Jim Eshkawkogan, co-chair of the Aboriginal Best Start Hub Advisory Committee, by calling 705-671-1941 ext. 222.
