Students interested in pursuing a health career in the cancer field will have a chance to see the Sudbury Hospital's cancer centre on Nov. 12, between 6 and 8 p.m.
The Sudbury regional hospital's Regional Cancer Program (RCP) will be opening its facility to students as part of its annual career night. The open house will feature display booths and tours of the research lab and radiation treatment area, explained a press release.
Health care professionals will be in attendance to answer questions and provide information to students to help them make informed decisions about their career paths.
"We are pleased to open our doors and showcase our facility to students interested in pursuing a health career in the cancer field," said Mark Hartman, the interim vice president of Sudbury regional hospital's RCP.
"Students will gain insight into some of the work being conducted by our excellent cancer research team, which is attracting a lot of international recognition. We have scientists from around the world working at the RCP in Sudbury, who are making an impact on cancer research today," explained Hartman.
Cambrian College, College Boréal, Laurentian University and the Michener Institute of Applied Health Sciences in Toronto will be present in the open house to provide information about their programs.
The open house is geared for secondary, post-secondary, and medical students, but can also provide useful information to guidance counsellors, teachers, and professionals interested in a career change.
Anyone interested in careers in nursing, radiation therapy, dental oncology, research, social work, nutrition, psychology and other cancer-related fields are invited to attend.
The cancer centre is located at 41 Ramsey Lake Road.
