For all those youth out there aspiring for a long, productive, and stable career using some of the most sophisticated technology and earning above-average salaries, then the skills trades may be just what you're looking for. One way to find out is to attend a free apprenticeship information session on Tuesday, Jan. 22 from 6 to 8 pm, which is being put on by the YMCA Employment Services of Sudbury, located at 10 Elm Street.

There,  you'll get tons of information regarding various trades in the industrial and construction sectors, as well as the health and safety field, Following the presentation, there will also be a panel of local employers available to answer questions and offer their advice.

“Skills trades are respected because of the important role they play in our economy and society,” said director Nancy Dube. “Much of Canada's productivity depends on the highly specialized expertise of trades people. It's no surprise that they are in high demand.”

According to Skills Canada, 40 percent of new jobs will be in the skills trades and technologies as opposed to in 1998 when that number was less than 20 percent. Also, it was predicted that more than one-third of jobs created in Canada would require a skilled trade designation or a college diploma by 2007, according to Job Futures 2000.
