Sudbury resident Natalie McLean was presented with a $1,000 Tim Hortons Scholarship at the restaurant chain's location at Sudbury Regional Hospital's main entrance Aug. 18.
The Tim Hortons Scholarship Program is designed to recognize store employees (as well as their children or grandchildren), who believe in giving back to their community through volunteer work and who are pursuing post-secondary education, stated a press release.
Entering its sixth year, the program has already helped more than 1,000 students across Canada and the United States with over $1 million awarded so far in scholarships. This year another $220,000 will be distributed among 220 students.
McLean, 25, is the daughter of the administrative assistant for the Tim Hortons locations at the hospital. The woman is a fourth year nursing student at Laurentian University, and hopes to attend the Northern Ontario School of Medicine.
The woman also worked at Tim Hortons in Hanmer when she was a teenager.
“We are delighted to present Natalie with the 2010 Tim Hortons Scholarship,” says Philippe Cousineau, president of the hospital's Volunteer Association, which owns the Tim Hortons locations at the hospital.
“We are proud of her commitment to this community and her desire to pursue her career as a nurse. We are happy that Tim Hortons can help Natalie fulfill her future goals and wish her much success.”
The application process for the 2010/2011 school year will open in February 2011. Further information is available at www.timhortons.com.
