Are you an  entrepreneurial person with a new business idea, but no where to set up shop?

The Downtown BIA's return of Win This Space may be exactly what you're looking for.

“This program is an innovative business recruitment initiative, designed to encourage entrepreneurial activity in downtown Sudbury, and offers an opportunity for new and aspiring entrepreneurs to put their business ideas into action and make their dreams a reality,”said a news release.

Last year's contest drew 30 entries, said Downtown BIA. The winner opened her business on Cedar Street. Two of the other participants have since opened businesses downtown following the competition. Others are continuing with their goals and are either under negotiation for space or seeking space.

The Win This Space competition is an opportunity to submit a new and unique business idea to win a year’s lease (to a maximum of $15,000 — not including utilities or leasehold improvements), plus other prizes, in downtown Sudbury … a total package valued at $47,000.

The goals of the program are to promote the filling of vacancies and new entrepreneurial activity in downtown Sudbury, to inspire someone to become an entrepreneur in downtown Sudbury and to offer them support to do so, to revitalize the downtown core by attracting new investment to the area, and to develop training opportunities and a business mentoring network.

Participants will be evaluated on the following criteria: Creativity and uniqueness, relevance to downtown, market need in downtown, and a sound business plan.

To get started, interested participants just need a great idea for a business in downtown Sudbury

“Tell us a bit about yourself, your business idea in 250 words or less, as well as a one- to three-minute video on you and your idea, and how your business would contribute to a vibrant downtown Sudbury,” said the press release.

Deadline to register is noon on Thursday, March 29.

Information and entry forms can be found at downtownsudbury.com or winthisspace.ca.
