Canadian Astronaut Chris Hadfield, the first Canadian to walk in space, will speak at Science North and share his experiences with about 200 secondary school students later this week.

His experiences working with robotics in space will be the main topic of the discussion.Hadfield, who was born in Ontario, is a Colonel with the Canadian Space Agency and logged his first space flight during a mission in 1995.

It was during this mission, which had Hadfield and other astronauts connect with the Russian space station Mir and bring up more than 1,000 kg in food, water, and supplies, that Hadfield became the first Canadian to operate the Canadarm in orbit, and was the only Canadian to ever set foot in Mir.

In 2001, Hadfield returned to space as part of the crew of space shuttle Endeavor. While in space, he and others delivered and installed a newly-designed Canadarm.

During this mission, Hadfield spent nearly 15 hours outside of the space capsule, travelling 10 times around the world, during two separate spacewalks.
