All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) are allowed on some municipal roads during the winter months, said the city in a news release.

Bylaw 2013-131 was amended in June, 2013 to permit and regulate the use of ATVs on some municipal roads from Dec. 1 to March 31. The list of roads permitting ATV use during the winter months differs from the April 1 to Nov. 30 season.

Riders are encouraged to familiarize themselves with ATV winter routes by dialling 311 for municipal services or by visiting www.greatersudbury.ca/atv.

Under municipal bylaw, ATVs are not permitted on municipal roads from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. and passengers are never permitted on public roads. Drivers must be insured, possess a valid driver’s licence and follow the rules of the road under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service is responsible for enforcing the ATV bylaw. For more information, including speed limits and the model of ATV approved under the bylaw, visit www.greatersudbury.ca/atv.
