Anishinaabek, born and raised in Toronto and a member of Serpent River First Nation, Wente was a film critic on CBC Radio for more than 20 years before taking on key positions at the Toronto Film Festival, where his work garnered awards of recognition.

In 2020, he was appointed board chair of the Canada Council for the Arts.

Wente will be giving a talk focused on his national bestseller, Unreconciled - Family, Truth, and Indigenous Resistance, which challenges reconciliation as a flawed notion and espouses truth as the basis for respectful relations with First Nations.

The author will be in conversation with Laurentian University's sociologist and philosopher Simon Laflamme.

Place des Arts du Grand Sudbury is holding a series of talks and exhibitions this fall.

Under the banner “Enlightening Talks for Evolving Times,” the talks will feature prominent arts and culture personalities who will discuss key issues, including relationships with Indigenous people.

Simultaneous translation will be available, to French or English.

On Dec. 19, the series features Sudbury native Marc Mayer, an expert in the field of contemporary art and a member of the Order of Canada.
