Laurentian University has announced Charles Belanger, professor in the School of Commerce and Administration, is the recipient of the 2006-2007 Teaching Excellence Award.

“The selection committee was very impressed by Belanger’s nomination,” said Harley d’Entremont, vice-president, academic (Francophone Affairs), in a news release. “His ability to inspire students and help them achieve their full potential through passion and high standards is remarkable.”

Former and current students have described Belanger as a teacher and individual whose enthusiasm for his profession is infectious. With his in-depth knowledge of the subject and vast international professional experience, he makes theory relevant to students by connecting it to the real world.

Students are always eager to enroll in his classes, knowing they will be held to the highest academic standards. By presenting an adult view of education that emphasizes the student’s role and commitment as vital to success, professor Belanger does not need to demand the best of his students; they instinctively desire to please him and aim for their full potential.

In return, professor Belanger selflessly offers support and encouragement to all students, current and former, by adopting a “full-time” open-door policy. Many have gone to pursue post-graduate studies under his guidance.

A successful international consultant in management, training and assessment, Belanger has been teaching in the English and French programs of the School of Commerce and Administration since 1985.

He has been a visiting professor in management at Universite de Poitiers and Universite de Nice Sophia Antipolis, in France. Dr. Belanger has authored or co-authored more that 60 books, chapters and articles, and is a sought after discussion leader and conference presenter in both national and international circles.
