When he finishes the graveyard shift, Sudbury’s Marcel Leclaire often rewards himself by making a small purchase: a Lotto 6/49 ticket with Encore.

That little treat paid off — really paid off — on Sept. 2.

The Lotto 6/49 draw that night transformed the Sudbury man’s life and made him an instant millionaire.

That night he checked his tickets at home. At first, he thought he’d won $1,000. Turns out, he needed to add a few more zeroes.

“Quickly, I realized I had all the numbers — $1 million,” he told OLG staff in Toronto when he claimed his prize.

A member of a large Northern Ontario family, Leclaire said he plans to use some of his winning to visit his many brothers and sisters scattered across the country.

“I have seven brothers and sisters who live in Ontario and across Canada, including British Columbia,” Leclaire is quoted in an OLG news release. “My dream is to travel west to visit family, taking time to see the country and reconnect with the people I love.”

For an extra $1, you can add Encore to most online lottery games. There is an Encore draw every day.

The winning ticket was purchased at Petro Canada on Lorne Street in Sudbury.
