Boardwalk Gaming's staff and patrons have raised more than $50,000 for the Red Cross Alberta Fires Appeal to help support those affected by the wildfires in Fort McMurray and other parts of Alberta earlier in the spring.

For three consecutive Fridays in June, Boardwalk Gaming Centres in Sudbury and Val Caron, along with Delta Bingo across Ontario, hosted Fort McMurray Fridays, where all sales from food and beverages were donated to the Canadian Red Cross.

“When disaster hits, our Boardwalk Gaming team finds a way to lend our support,” said Denis Sivret, general manager of Boardwalk Gaming, in a press release.

“The response to our Fort McMurray Fundraiser Fridays was terrific. Our players and staff were eager to offer their support and were extremely generous in their contributions.

“We are happy we can make this donation to help rebuild the lives of the individuals and families whose homes were destroyed by these devastating wildfires.”

The Fort McMurray wildfire started in May 1, and destroyed around 2,400 homes throughout its course.

The fire eventually spread across approximately 590,000 hectares before it was declared under control on July 5.

It is the costliest natural disaster in Canadian history.
