The season of giving continues with Fionn MacCool’s and The Rotary Club of Sudbury partnering with Canadian Blood Services to give the most significant gift of all – the gift of life.

To ensure that the national blood inventory is well stocked over the holidays, the Rotary Club of Sudbury has adopted a local blood donor clinic and committed to recruiting new donors and filling appointments to aid in collecting the 224 donations needed each week.

In a press release, the Rotary Club of Sudbury said, “We are very excited about making a real difference in the lives of Canadian hospital patients. This year, 100,000 new blood donors are needed across Canada to meet patient needs — including 2,324 needed right here in our community,”

Meanwhile, the owners of Fionn MacCool’s participated in their way by organizing a blood donor team so that patients can spend quality time with their families especially during the holidays.

“Of all the gifts exchanged during the holidays, we knew that this gift would have the biggest impact and eagerly heeded the call from Canadian Blood Services,” Bev Wills, Fionn MacCool’s Publican said.

According to the Canadian Blood Services, the national blood inventory is on a steady decline because of missed or unfilled appointments.

Group efforts as exhibited by the two businesses are a step in the right direction to meet the demands of blood supply in our communities and nationally.

“The demand for blood never stops; cancer patients, accident victims, and people with blood disorders rely on blood transfusions every day,” Mary Ann St. Michael, Territory Manager at Canadian Blood Services said. “Their donation will help ensure the national blood supply meets demand and supports patients’ needs going into the New Year.”

You can also contribute and save lives by making an appointment to Give Life at the Sudbury blood donor clinic, located at 944 Barrydowne Road during the week of January 1st, 2018.

The clinic is open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. as well as Thursday and Friday 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m..
