Andre Ruest, the vice-president of operations at Chelmsford-based B&D Manufacturing, passed away Nov. 19 after a year-long battle with cancer.

“Andre leaves behind an incredible legacy at B&D Manufacturing,” said an email from Sudbury Mining Supply and Service Association (SAMSSA) executive director Dick DeStefano, which he circulated to his members and media.

“As the company’s first full-time employee in 1980, he has always firmly believed that this company was 'built for the long-term.' Under Andre’s leadership from 1997 to 2014, B&D Manufacturing diversified and consistently reached new levels and new audiences. He developed the company’s presence internationally, successfully on-boarding distributors around the globe.”

A service will be held for Ruest Nov. 28 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Jean de Brebeuf Church on Kathleen Street. The family will be there to receive guests beginning at 9:30 a.m.

A bursary fund has been set up in memory of Gerald Dubois and Andre Ruest for directed Collège Boréal students in programs related to mining: mechanical, heavy equipment mechanic, machinist and mechanical engineering.
