Canadian Blood Services will be honouring residents in Sudbury and recognizing their commitment to giving life to patients across the country on Thursday, June 14.

Honouring Our LifeBlood is an annual recognition ceremony for those who have achieved significant milestones donating blood, platelets and plasma. Since Canadian Blood Services' inception 20 years ago, this event continually celebrates partners, volunteers and stem cell donors.

Donors at the event will have made 15,700 donations collectively.

To highlight the generosity of the honourees, Melissa Dupuis will be the guest speaker for the evening.

Melissa was rushed to the hospital and received emergency surgery after experiencing an ectopic pregnancy. Her fallopian tube burst and she was bleeding internally. Melissa received a blood transfusion that night. It took many weeks of recovery, but she is happy to be alive.

“One year and one day after receiving my blood transfusion, I celebrated life by giving blood.” said Dupuis “I was able to give the gift that someone gave me; Life.

Local recognition ceremonies are being held in 30 communities across the country from April 16 to June 14.

Sudbury's ceremony will be held at the Holiday Inn on Regent Street from 6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m.
