Canadian Tire recalls more Christmas lights

Two weeks ago, Canadian Tire issued a recall on 12 types of Christmas lights sold under the brand name, Holiday Collection.

Today, Canadian Tire is recalling an additional 33 types of indoor and outdoor Christmas lights from the Holiday Collection, specifically those sold after Aug. 1, 2015.

"We take tremendous pride in sourcing quality products for Canadians and we've been let down by two factories that have manufactured products that do not meet our safety standards,” said Allan MacDonald, Chief Operating Officer of Canadian Tire, in a press release.

“We will obviously address these failures with the factories, but in the meantime we're asking Canadians to return the identified products. We believe that other Canadian retailers are facing similar issues and we trust that they will proactively address them as well.”

Testing by Health Canada has determined that the recalled seasonal lights may pose a fire and electric shock hazard to consumers.

Health Canada has received one report from a consumer of minor electric shock related to the use of the multi-coloured lights. Canadian Tire has not received any reports of consumer incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of these recalled lights.

About 861,750 units of the seasonal lights, which were manufactured in China, were sold at Canadian Tire stores across Canada. The recalled products were sold from August 2015 through December 2015.

To avoid confusion, it is important to note that the large majority of Christmas lights sold by Canadian Tire – including NOMA lights - are not affected by this recall, the press release from the store said.

Customers who have purchased the recalled products should discontinue use immediately and return it to any Canadian Tire store for a refund.
