With the Elizabeth Fry Society of Northeastern Ontario celebrating their 50th anniversary throughout 2022, they’ll be extending the fun into next year with the sale of 50 tickets per draw of their Catch the Ace game.

It’s what’s known as a progressive raffle lottery, a multiple draw game in which participants purchase tickets for two chances to win each week the lottery runs. The 50th anniversary means only 50 tickets will be sold each week at $10 a piece.

All ticket holders have a chance to win a prize consisting of 20 per cent of ticket sales.

The winner of the draw has a chance to win a prize consisting of 30 per cent of the ticket sales from each draw held to date, which progresses from draw to draw until the winner of the initial draw selects the ace of spades from a regular deck of cards

If the card selected is not the ace of spades, the selected card is removed from the deck and the progressive prize portion of the ticket sales for that draw is rolled over to the progressive jackpot for the next scheduled draw. This continues, using the playing cards from the original deck until the ace of spades has been selected and the progressive jackpot has been awarded.

Tickets are valid only for the draw for which they were purchased. Once the draw is complete, the non-winning tickets are removed from the draw container and a new series of tickets is made available for the next draw. All draws will be video recorded.

Essentially:

1st chance: Weekly winner receives 20 per cent of the ticket sales from the week.

2nd chance: same winner has the opportunity to pick an envelope, if the envelope holds the Ace of Spades, they win the progressive pot. This pot holds 30 per cent of each week of ticket sales accumulating over time as the Ace does not get picked each week.

Because of this progressive draw, there is a chance this could run for 52 weeks, generating $7,800 for the winner and $13,000 for the agency.

Tickets are on sale now and the first draw will happen Jan. 3 at 9 a.m.

You can find more information and tickets on the agency’s website, found here.
