Continue a 60-year tradition next month at the Onaping Falls Winter Carnival, which runs Feb. 2-4.
“For 60 years, the Levack-Onaping and/or Dowling Winter Carnivals have been the longest running winter carnivals in Greater Sudbury,” the organizers said in a news release. “Our carnivals have been enjoyed by thousands every year and are a main attraction for the residents of Onaping Falls. We are proud to bring the Onaping Falls Winter Carnival to life once again.”
The carnival begins on Feb. 2 at 6 p.m. at the Dowling Leisure Centre with opening ceremonies and the Miss Snowflake Pageant.
The fun continues on Saturday and Sunday with events each day for the whole family.
The Dowling Leisure Centre will be the site of a winter fun day on Saturday with competitions for kids and adults, carnival games, face painting, a cake walk, and a vintage snowmachine show, as well as free cross-country skiing and snowshoeing at the Onaping Falls Nordics Ski Club. Families can also enjoy a pancake breakfast and kids curling at the Onaping Falls Curling Club.

Don’t forget to look for carnival mascots, Ookpik and Bonhomme, throughout the event.
A carnival button is required to participate in carnival events and activities. Buttons are $5 for adults and $3 for those 17 years and under. The purchase of a $5 adult carnival button enters you into a draw (License # M868701) with first prize of $500, second prize of $250 and third prize of $100. Draw will be held on Feb. 4 at 5 p.m. at the Onaping Falls Legion.
