Starting Jan. 1, 2017 restaurants that are part of a chain with 20 or more locations will need to display calorie information for all their menu items.

The new requirements, which are part of Ontario's Healthy Menu Choices Act, 2015, are meant to give customers more information about what they're eating.

To meet new regulations chain restaurants will need to list the calorie information next to the every food item in the menu, and make sure it is unobstructed and readily legible to customers.

In addition to calorie information, each restaurant menu will need to include the following statement: “The average adult requires approximately 2,000 to 2,400 calories per day; however, individual calorie needs may vary.”
