Given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, instead of its traditional in-person debates, the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce is holding virtual federal election candidates events next week via Zoom.

The chamber is billing these events as “virtual fireside chats.” The Sudbury riding event takes place Aug. 31, and the Nickel Belt riding event Sept. 1. Both events take place from 7-8:30 p.m.

The events will be a chance to “discuss issues relevant to Greater Sudbury businesses and the broader community.”

There will be an opportunity for the audience to submit written questions to the candidates both prior to and during the event via the question and answer feature.

Audience members can submit questions to the chamber prior to the event at [email protected] or via Twitter at @SudburyCofC.

A release from the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce states that the organization has a long history of hosting forums for candidates for political office to share their platforms and positions, specifically on issues related to the business community and how to improve the economic viability of this area.

The event is free and open to the public. You can find more information about the Sudbury event here and the Nickel Belt event here.
