With the June 7 provincial election getting closer, the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce is scheduling all-candidates debates in Sudbury and Nickel Belt.

The Sudbury riding debate takes place May 23 at 7 p.m. at Collège Boréal on Lasalle Boulevard. Liberal MPP and Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault is the incumbent, who's running against New Democratic candidate Jamie West, the PCs' Troy Crowder and Green candidate David Robinson.

The Nickel Belt debate take place May 29 at 7 p.m. at Cousin Vinny’s, located at 5085 Old Hwy 69 in Hanmer. NDP MPP France Gélinas is the incumbent, running against Liberal hopeful Tay Butt and PC hopeful Jo-Ann Cardinal. The Greens have yet to select a Nickel Belt candidate.

Both debates go until 9:30 p.m.

“These all-candidates’ events are open to all candidates in the respective ridings,” the Chamber said in a news release. “There will be an opportunity for candidates to answer questions on matters of importance to Greater Sudbury’s business community as well as to address written questions received from audience and on-line participants. The all candidates events are free and open to the public. No registration is required.”

The event is sponsored by the Sudbury Real Estate Board. Chamber members and the public can visit sudburychamber.ca to find more information. Members of the public are encouraged to submit questions either at the event, in advance of the event, or via social media.
