About 50 Chelmsford Valley District Composite School students walked out of class Wednesday morning to protest the Rainbow District School Board's plans to close their school as soon as next year.

The high school is one of 12 schools the board is looking at closing, with a decision expected to be made in January.

The Chelmsford students stood outside the school on the sidewalk along Highway 144 with signs, eliciting honks from passing vehicles.

Grade 11 student Kendra Brenton-Levesque said she and her friends chose to attend the Chelmsford high school for a reason, and they'd like to graduate from there.

“It's honestly quite depressing because we all want to be here, and it just sucks they would do this to us, really,” she said.

A similar student walkout was held at Lively District Secondary School Oct. 6. The Rainbow board is also planning to close that high school as soon as next year.
