Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival has released its emoji-filled 2023 festival image.

Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival, in collaboration with 50 Carleton, has presented its 35th anniversary edition festival image, promotional materials and preliminary event details.

“Bring Emotion to Life” is the official tagline this year, placing emphasis on the unique opportunity to come together for the nine-day cultural event and bask in the wide range of emotions that both Canadian and international cinema offer.

“Film evokes every conceivable emotion,” said Tony Jurgilas, chief design strategist at 50 Carleton. “We engage them exponentially when they’re on the big screen. The 35th anniversary of Cinéfest is back 100 per cent in the theatre with all those emotions free-flowing on a gargantuan scale! That makes me ... happy.”

As hinted above, film screenings will take place fully in-theatre this year at SilverCity Sudbury — bringing Cinéfest back to its original roots after navigating through the pandemic. The festival was still operating with a hybrid of in-person and virtual screenings in 2022.

“At the beginning of this process, we asked 50 Carleton for a universally understood theme that would celebrate the impact of shared emotional experiences,” says Patrick O’Hearn, executive director at Cinéfest Sudbury. “With a theme that acts as a playful invitation to communicate, debate, and interpret emotion, we’re seeking to remind people that this is a banner year for Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival — an event where, for nearly 35 years, big on-screen emotions have been shared by very big crowds.”

The 35th anniversary edition of Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival will take place Sept. 16-24, with Passports on sale now at Cinefest.com.
