Cultural Industries Ontario North (CION) and REEL CANADA have announced the Northern Ontario Film Crew Training Sessions, a program providing free training to individuals residing in Northern Ontario who want to start a career in film and television production.

The program begins on Jan. 30, and consists of three weeks of workshops in North Bay, as well as in Greater Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie.

“The goal is to get people comfortable enough that they can walk on to a film set and feel confident in doing some of the roles that are needed to create a film or television show,” said Devin Mahesh, CION’s Film Sector Development Officer, in a press release.

CION and REEL CANADA have engaged partners William F. White International Inc., who will provide required film and television equipment to facilitate the training sessions, as well as DGC Ontario, IATSE 634, IATSE 411, and IATSE 667, who will administer the training sessions both virtually and in-person.

Participants of CION’s Northern Ontario Film Crew Training Sessions program will engage with course curriculum in production offices and studio spaces thanks to the generous support from the Northern Ontario Film Studios (NOFS).

NOFS, which is Northern Ontario’s first film studio, is donating studio and office space North Bay and Sudbury; locations that have serviced over 150 film and television projects in the North since 2012.

Across both Sudbury and North Bay locations, NOFS provides studio space, production offices, and equipment rentals.

Details on the workshops and applications are available online here. Approved applicants will be contacted directly.
