The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is reminding citizens to get their flu shots as the flu season gains momentum.

“The flu shot is a safe and effective way of keeping you and your family healthy,” according to a statement on the ministry's website.

“The elderly, young children, pregnant women, individuals with chronic medical conditions and people with weakened immune systems are at particularly higher risk of flu-related complications.

“Everyone is further encouraged to follow other infection-prevention behaviours, such as washing hands thoroughly and often, sneezing and coughing into your sleeve, and staying home when you're sick.”

The Sudbury and District Health Unit is currently offering flu shots by appointment at its offices. To book an appointment, phone 705-522-9200.

The health unit also advises people that their primary care providers also offer flu shots.
