City closing down for the holidays

By nightfall Christmas Eve, retail stores and most businesses in the city will be closed tight. Not a creature will be stirring. Stores will be closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and will reopen Dec. 27.

Stores will be closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and will reopen Dec. 27.

There will be some things open on the holidays. Shoppers Drug Mart stores in New Sudbury and in Hanmer will be open Christmas Day from 10 am to 6 pm. They will also be open Boxing Day as will the Shoppers at The Four Corners.

If you need a Tims, the Chelmsford Tim Hortons location will be open on Dec. 25.

The Kings Buffet on The Kingsway is open from 3 pm on Christmas Day.

Northern Life’s next issue, Wednesday, Dec. 26 will be delivered Boxing Day. The Friday, Dec. 28 edition will be delivered as usual.

The Lasalle Walk-in Clinic, Lasalle Blvd. at Auger St. will be open Boxing Day 9 am to 9 pm. The Northwoods Medical Clinic on Lasalle, and the Val Est Walk-in Clinic will also be open Dec. 26.

SilverCity Cinemas on Barry Downe Rd. and Rainbow Cinemas downtown will be open Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

People in crisis during the holidays can visit the Crisis Intervention Program at St. Joseph’s Health Centre.  Phone support can be reached at 675-4760.

Anyone with medical issues is advised to phone Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000 before visiting the SRH emergency department.

The Sudbury and District Health Unit will be closed Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1. Phone 522-9200 to report emergencies.
Christmas Eve celebrations will take place at St. Luke’s United Church, Minnow Lake at 7 pm, (566-5685) and at Trinity United Church, Garson, at 9 pm. (525-8618).

All Nations Church invites the community of Greater Sudbury to celebrate a family Christmas, Dec. 25 from 10 to 11:15 am at Fraser Auditorium, Laurentian University. Children are invited to come in their pajamas. Phone 673-6110.

There is no need to be alone Christmas Day. The Salvation Army at 146 Larch St., will host a free Christmas dinner with all the trimmings Dec. 25 at noon. Santa is expected to visit. For more information, phone 673-1175.

The Living Nativity will be performed Dec. 21, 22, 23 and Christmas Eve at Science North at 7:30 pm.

Grace Family Church members invite anyone who is in need or alone to a free Christmas dinner this Saturday, Dec. 22 from 5 to 7 pm. The church is located at 468 Antwerp St.
