The City of Greater Sudbury has joined the Ministry of Natural Resources in issuing a fire ban.

During the ban, there are no outside fires allowed, including grass burning, brush burning, or the use of firepits. Burning permits issued by the city, which would allow for these activities, are suspended under the ban.

The Ministry's restricted fire zone extends from halfway between Sault Ste. Marie to just past North Bay, and from all along Hudson Bay to the French River.

The fire restrictions are in place to attempt to prevent fires as the early, warm spring and lack of rain has made northeastern Ontario very dry.
