Sudbury Performance Group presents comedians Simon Rakoff and Thomas Calnan for an evening of double the fun Saturday, April 20.

“We are excited to have two comedy superstars performing for the residents of Greater Sudbury,” says Mark Mannisto, president of Sudbury Performance Group. “Tickets sell quickly for our comedy nights, and this pair will be no exception!”

Simon Rakoff has been a comedian since 1978. His act is well-crafted and thought-provoking, delivered with the smoothness of a veteran and the enthusiasm of a newcomer. He has made audiences laugh across Canada from Newfoundland to Vancouver Island.

A top headliner, Rakoff’s quick mind and engaging personality also make him a popular MC at clubs, and corporate and charity events. A favourite at comedy festivals, he has performed at Montreal’s Just For Laughs, Halifax Ha!, The Winnipeg Comedy Festival, and many others.

On television, Rakoff has appeared on innumerable Canadian shows, and had his own special on CBC. He also provided humorous commentary on the local Toronto news. He is also a frequent voice on national radio on shows, including The Debaters, Madly Off In All Directions, Definitely Not The Opera and As It Happens.

Rakoff is also a much-sought-after writer, and has added his talent to Canada’s sitcoms, and sketch and panel shows.

Winner of the 2016 Windsor Comedy Fest, and featured on CBC Radio’s Laugh Out Loud, Thomas Calnan has been performing stand-up for more than 10 years, and has entertained literally dozens of people across Ontario, and one weirdo in Montreal.

He has been described as “somewhat amusing” and “not terrible” by people he has talked to after shows.

Through his steady work ethic, great writing, and a seemingly unending supply of compromising photographs of every comedy producer in Canada, Rakoff is definitely someone you can expect to hear more about in the future.

The show runs Saturday, April 20 at the Trevi Bar & Grill on Lasalle Boulevard. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the performance runs at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets cost $35 for regular admission or $55 for VIP (includes premium seating, meet-and-greet, and complimentary snacks).

Purchase tickets at sudburyperformance.ca, or by calling 705-662-8518.
