The construction costs for phase two of the one-site hospital will likely ring in at around $95 million.

Sudbury Regional Hospital officials recently purchased a building permit from the City of Greater Sudbury where they listed the cost of the project at $95,243,920, says the city's manager of corporate communications, Ghislain Lamothe.

The figure does not include what it will cost to outfit the new hospital with equipment and furniture, he says.

When construction on the one-site hospital was halted in 2001, $143 million had been spent on the project. Provincial consultants later estimated it would cost $363 million to build and outfit the hospital.

Back in the 1990s, the original estimate for building the one-site hospital was $85 million. It was originally supposed to be completed in 1999.

Now the project is supposed to be completed in the late fall or early winter of 2009.
