Ward 7 residents elected him to get results, and he delivered, says Mike Jakubo.

In a letter to Sudbury.com, Jakubo says he's been able to deliver for residents in his ward since being elected the youngest person on council in 2014.

“That is why I have worked so hard to ensure that Ward 7 receives significant quality of life projects, like playground renewals, splash pads, arena and court repairs and accessibility upgrades,” he writes. “Projects like these are proof of the improvements that our recreational infrastructure has seen. They have made our ward a more desirable place to live and play.”

He's also worked to renew transportation and water infrastructure, Jakubo writes, fixing more roads and more water and sewer lines than ever.

“This is the critical infrastructure that keeps the residents and businesses of our community connected,” Jakubo writes. “We have seen such work in all parts of Ward 7, with large portions of our major roadways rebuilt, local and gravel roads resurfaced and old water mains renewed.

“I am also proud to be the finance chair and see all these results be achieved with the lowest average tax increase of any term of council in the last 20 years.

“These are just some examples of the measurable results that Ward 7 and Greater Sudbury have seen since 2014. They are a big reason I am running for re-election; because I’m ready to deliver continued progress and more results like these for the people of Ward 7 and the city as a whole.”

Full text of Jakubo's letter:

When the people of Ward 7 elected me in 2014, they spoke in a clear and concise voice.  They voted in the youngest person on council, they voted in a family man, they voted in a business professional, but most importantly, they voted in a person with relevant experience who could get results.

Results can come in various ways, but they are all measurable and they all show progress towards making Ward 7 and the City of Greater Sudbury a better place to live, work, play and invest!

That is why I have worked so hard to ensure that Ward 7 receives significant quality of life projects, like playground renewals, splash pads, arena and court repairs and accessibility upgrades. Projects like these are proof of the improvements that our recreational infrastructure has seen. They have made our ward a more desirable place to live and play.

I have also worked hard to ensure that our city invests more in the renewal of our transportation and water infrastructure.  Our council has responsibly amplified the rate of capital investment in Greater Sudbury -- we are fixing and renewing more roads and more water and sewer lines than ever before.

This is the critical infrastructure that keeps the residents and businesses of our community connected.  We have seen such work in all parts of Ward 7 with large portions of our major roadways rebuilt, local and gravel roads resurfaced and old water mains renewed. This work has made Ward 7 and Greater Sudbury a place where businesses want to invest.

I am also proud to be the finance chair and see all these results be achieved with the lowest average tax increase of any term of council in the last 20 years!

Yet still, all those results mean little if they are not properly and readily communicated with residents and businesses in a clear and concise fashion. That is why I have worked hard with city staff to get construction notices out in a timely manner, even being delivered door to door in some instances.  That is why I have worked diligently with the Community Action Networks and other organizations from the start of a project, to gather the best input and ideas and yield the best end results for events or projects.

That is why I am a very accessible councillor, providing very concise and common-sense explanations of issues, policies and projects through newsletters, at town hall and community group meetings, or on Facebook, Twitter, e-mail and telephone.

These are just some examples of the measurable results that Ward 7 and Greater Sudbury have seen since 2014. They are a big reason I am running for re-election; because I’m ready to deliver continued progress and more results like these for the people of Ward 7 and the city as a whole!
