Lively's Tyler Fauvelle, who created the Stompin' Tom Connors statue standing in front of the Sudbury Arena, is set to unveil one of his new creations in Chapleau, Ont.

His latest statue depicts Charles Henry Byce.

Born in Chapleau, Ontario, Byce went through the residential school system. Serving with the Lake Superior Regiment (Motor) in the Second World War, he earned a Military Medal (MM) for valour in January 1945.

A few weeks later, he made a gallant stand, against hopeless odds, saving more than a dozen men in his company. For this, he received the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM).

Only a handful of Canadians have ever received both a DCM and MM. Remarkably, Byce’s father, Henry Byce, was one of them.

Byce was Canada's most highly-decorated indigenous soldier of the Second World War.

The statue unveiling takes place at the Legion in Chapleau Sept. 17.
