Critical care expansion complete

The Sudbury Regional Hospital has announced that it has completed its critical care expansion with two Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds now operational at the Memorial site.

The Sudbury Regional Hospital has announced that it has completed its critical care expansion with two Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds now operational at the Memorial site.

Since the beginning of 2006 the hospital has expanded its ability to provide critical care with the opening of six new funded Critical Care beds, bringing the total number of critical care beds at the HRSRH to 41, 29 of which are ICU beds.

“These additional beds and new equipment are beneficial for both patients and staff,” said Grace St. Jean, administrative director of the critical care program, in a news release. “In a critical care setting, any advantage that can enhance patient care and improve patient outcome is valuable, and improvements to ICU staff safety mean that attention can remain focussed where it belongs – on the people in our care.”

The ICU beds feature industry-leading state-of-the-art cardiac monitors and specially-designed patient beds, as well as new patient lifts that feature the most advanced positioning and transfer technology available. The lifts will not only increase patient safety, but are an effective injury prevention solution for staff, allowing patient transfers to be performed safely by nurses.
