Action from Saturday night’s Greater Sudbury Cubs versus Blind River Beavers game in Blind River.

Following a prior triumph against the Blind River Beavers, the Greater Sudbury Cubs dropped their second in a seven-game best-of series on Saturday.

The previous game saw the Cubs beat the Beavers 2-1.

Saturday’s game, hosted in Blind River, saw Beavers players Jesse Dupuis and Daniel Vasic both tally twice as part of their team’s 6-2 victory over the Greater Sudbury Cubs.

The series continues Monday at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex, where the two teams will face off again beginning at 7:05 p.m.

As was the case in the seven-game opener, the Cubs opened the scoring to gain the early edge, according to a media release issued by the NOJHL.

Oliver Smith redirected a Justin Seguin attempt from the right point that went up over Blind River starter Noah Tegelaar 5:22 in for his first of the playoffs.

The Beavers responded by equalizing the scoring, with Jakob Kovacs sending a back pass over to Dupuis, who propelled a backhand past downed Cubs netminder Noah Metivier.

A couple minutes into the second period, Cubs player Nolan Newton put a feed from the corner in front, which was steered by Smith while moving in front.

Retaking the lead, two and a half minutes into the second stanza, the visitors’ Nolan Newton put a feed from the corner in front that was steered in by Smith while moving in front.

The game tied again when Blind River’s Evan Fraccaro worked a play over to Dupuis coming in the back door.

More Blind River goals followed, securing their lead with a final scoring talling of 6-2.
