Death of Lively dog prompts online petition for tougher bylaw

Petition comes after family dog euthanized following an attack from neighbouring dogs

An online petition is asking for stricter bylaws in relation to unsafe dogs and their owners.

The petition was started after a Norwegian elkhound named Tonka had to be euthanized after being mauled by two dogs that had been left to roam a Lively neighbourhood by their owner.

"These dogs need to be removed from their home (along with the other two dogs she owns) as it is quite obvious she is unable to care of them and ensure this ongoing issue of her doings being on the loose and attacking people and animals is put to rest,” the petition reads.

While the petition says the city's animal control bylaws need to be re-evaluated, it does not specify how the bylaws should be amended.  Hundreds of supporters have signed the petition since it went up.
