The president and chief operating officer of the Sudbury Regional Hospital is now also a member of the Ontario Hospital Association's board of directors.

In a press release issued Sept. 20, the hospital announced Dr. Denis Roy's appointment to the board. His term begins in November and is for the 2010-2011 term.

The Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) board is made of representatives from five regions in Ontario. Roy will be acting as the Region One director, and represents Sudbury, Kenora, Thunder Bay, and Parry Sound — and about 40 hospitals.

“Dr. Roy’s leadership and vision will be a tremendous asset to the OHA,” Tony Corallo, chair of the Sudbury Regional Hospital's board of directors, stated in the press release.

Roy has also been appointed to the role of teaching and specialty training.

“His breadth of knowledge and experience on hospital operations and academic health science centres across Canada will greatly enhance the work of the OHA board of directors,” Corallo added.

The OHA works with the province's hospitals and partners as an advocate for quality healthcare in Ontario, and represents 154 hospitals in Ontario.
