Greater Sudbury city council meets tonight to get the public's opinion on the future of development charges.
Builders say the fees, which are imposed on new development, are discouraging people from buying new homes. But studies show they are a minor factor when it comes to the number of new homes being built in a community.
Councillors are considering halving the fees, which add about $17,700 to the price of a new home in the city.
