The sudden passing of 105.3 Kiss FM morning show host Rich Griffin two years ago shocked the Nickel City.

But in Griffin's passing, a new organization to encourage organ donation, #1Saves8, was born, started by Nancy Griffin, Rich's wife.

Griffin's generosity — he was an organ donor himself — lives on in the organization's efforts to encourage organ donation.

You can help by signing up to be an organ donor at BeADonor.ca. You can help in another, more immediate way as well: by giving blood.

Canadian Blood Services says during organ transplantation, the patient will require at least one blood tranfusion during the procedure. By donating blood, you are also contributing to the survival of organ recipients.

To this end, Canadian Blood Services in Sudbury is hosting a blood donor clinic in Griffin's memory starting Aug. 14.

"Members of the community are encouraged to donate blood in honour of Rich during the week of August 14-18," Canadian Blood Services states in a press release. "To commemorate the special clinics, Rich’s wife, Nancy, will be present at the clinic on Monday, Aug. 14 to thank donors."

Donation clinic times are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3-7 p.m., and Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The clinic is located at 944 Barrydowne Road.
