Community donations helped Finlandia Village create a new garden and a new observation deck this year.

The D.C. Anderson Foundation made a $100,000 donation that saw the construction of the Howard Lincoln and Josephine Anderson Wetlands Observation Deck at Finlandia Village. The new observation deck is being built overlooking the wetlands behind the facility.

Timo Nordberg and members of the Finnish Canadian Athletic Association Voima Inc. recently presented the Finlandia Sisu Charitable Foundation with a cheque for $70,000, bringing the group’s donation total to $156,190.45.

A donation by Robert and Aino Fontaine allowed for the construction of a new garden at the Majatalo Residence. The Fontaine-Uitto Garden was dedicated for the Fontaine and Uitto families (Aino’s late parents, Ilamri and Anni Uitto; Robert’s late parents, Jacques and Rollande Fontaine).

The Fontaine’s were joined at the celebration by a large number of family and friends, including MPP Glenn Thibeault and former MPP Rick Bartolucci.
