The Sudbury & District Health Unit has lifted the drinking water advisory that came into effect Friday, June 23, for residents who take their drinking water from the Dew Drop Road area of Long Lake.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change tested the water in the area to determine its safety and has advised the Health Unit that the results indicate no increased risk due to the hydraulic fluid spill.

What to do after a drinking water advisory is lifted and before using the water:

  • Flush your water treatment system and replace your filters.
  • Run cold water faucets for five minutes or until the water runs clear.
  • Run water softeners through a regeneration cycle.
  • Drain and refill hot water heaters.
  • Large-volume users may need to run cold water taps for a longer period of time on first use.
  • To get rid of sediment, remove and rinse faucet screens before putting them back in place.

There are no health-based restrictions on swimming or other recreational activities in Long Lake related to this spill.
