The Northern Cancer Foundation has partnered with Triple M Metal to host the Scrap Cancer fundraiser, set to take place in both Sudbury and North Bay throughout the month of August.
During the month, people can drop off scrap metal and electronic waste at one of four bins located in Greater Sudbury, including:
- Rammako’s Source for Adventure – Regent
- Bianco’s Superstore – Kingsway
- Pharmasave – Val Caron
- Rifles and Reels Game and Fish Club – Garson
One-hundred per cent of proceeds raised through the effort go toward the Northern Cancer Foundation, which the organization notes in a media release will “directly support cutting-edge cancer research, the acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment, and enhanced patient care at the Shirley and Jim Fielding Northeast Cancer Centre.”
Last year’s effort raised more than $52,000, and organizers have set a goal of exceeding this amount.
“Scrap Cancer is more than a fundraising initiative; it represents the unwavering spirit of our community coming together to make a difference,” Northern Cancer Foundation community engagement and events specialist Kristofer Cacciotti said in a media release.
“Through the collective efforts of individuals, organizations, and businesses, we are driving positive change and transforming cancer care in our region.”
In addition to encouraging people to drop off items in one of the four bins, the Northern Cancer Foundation is encouraging organizations to join the effort by motivating employees to contribute scrap metal and/or gather unused materials for the collection.
Every dollar donated to the Northern Cancer Foundation remains in the region. For more information on the organization, visit their website, ncfsudbury.com.
