The annual Easter Seals Telethon was held April 5 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and was broadcast live from Cambrian College's eDome in Sudbury.

One hundred thousand dollars was raised in the Sudbury district alone during the telethon.

The Easter Seals Society of Ontario was founded in 1922, and is dedicated to helping children and young people with physical disabilities reach their full potential by offering financial assistance, and programs such as scholarship funds and summer camps.

It can cost upwards of $40,000 per year to care for a child with a severe physical disability. According to Easter Seals, in 2008, 40 per cent of families who requested assistance reported a total household income of under $40,000, while 21 per cent have a total household income of under $20,000.

For many items required by these families, such as bath lifts and specialized car seats, government assistance is not available.

Easter Seals officials encourages citizens to honour their pledges. Phone 566-8858 or visit www.easterseals.org .
