Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) students will be among those gathered at Tom Davies Square in Sudbury Sept. 24 at 9:30 a.m. to take part in the celebration of the first provincial Franco-Ontarian Day.

This event, organized by the Assemblée de la francophonie de l’Ontario (AFO) and its partners, the Association canadienne-française de l’Ontario du grand Sudbury, the City of Greater Sudbury, the CSCNO and the Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario, is open to the general public.

In Greater Sudbury, participants in the celebration will march through the streets of downtown Sudbury before attending a concert featuring music by École secondaire catholique l’Horizon’s Le Jeudi Soir and Le Groupe 17 from École secondaire Macdonald-Cartier.

The event will conclude with speeches by Mayor John Rodriguez and Senator Marie Poulin, and the raising of the Franco-Ontarian flag.

“The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario takes great pride in celebrating the first official provincial Franco-Ontarian Day and our flag’s 35th anniversary with our partners,” Lyse-Anne Papineau, CSCNO director of education, said.

“As we celebrate our Francophone and Catholic heritage, this activity will enable us to promote the excellence and the dedication of our students, who seek to widen their Francophone space and fully live their culture in the province of Ontario.”
