When 82-year-old Fernand Legault went missing from his home in River Valley on Thursday, Aug. 11, his family feared for the worst.
But thanks to a well organized search by the West Nipissing Police service and the OPP, and help from more than 200 volunteers, Legault was found the next day, around 2.4 kilometres from his home.
His son, Mike Legault, said he was thankful for the police officers and volunteers who helped his family find his father alive.
“These officers were very thorough,” he said.
An OPP helicopter spotted the elder Legault in a wooded area Friday, Aug. 12, near an old pipeline he had followed from the farm where he lives with his wife.
His son Mike said it was surprising to find his father that far from the house, since he has limited mobility and needs help to get up and down the stairs.
The senior Legault is now recovering at a local hospital, and is in stable condition.
