Updated: Weekend death on Lake Wanapitei happened after man ran personal water craft onto land

A boating accident on Lake Wanapitei in the area of East Bay Road in Skead claimed the life of a 41-year-old man in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

At around 12 a.m. July 8, the man was operating a personal water craft when he collided with land and was ejected from the vessel.

Emergency responders provided life-saving measures to the man, but unfortunately, they were unsuccessful.

The victim's name is not being released out of respect for the family's wishes. “Our deepest condolences go out to the man's family and friends,” said a press release from Greater Sudbury Police.

The incident is under investigation by Greater Sudbury Police Service's Traffic Management Unit and Marine Unit in collaboration with the Ontario Provincial Police Marine Reconstructionists.

A marine vessel collision on Lake Wanapitei has claimed one life. 

The police had responded to a marine vessel collision involving a personal injury to a male. 

Despite being provided with life saving measure by the paramedics the man was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The Greater Sudbury Police tweeted at 5:46 a.m. that the were investigating the incident in conjunction with OPP Marine Reconstructionist and the investigation was still in its preliminary stages.
