The federal government announced yesterday it's investing $737,900 in three initiatives in the Greater Sudbury area.

Science North will receive $487,200 from FedNor's Northern Ontario Development Program in support of upgrades to the IMAX theatre.

Place des Arts, a shared francophone arts facility to be located downtown, received funding of $150,700 from FedNor's Economic Development Initiative.

And the City of Greater Sudbury received $100,000 from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program to rehabilitate the courtyard at Tom Davies Square.

Paul Lefebvre, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor, made the announcement Tuesday in Sudbury at Science North’s IMAX Theatre.

“The Government of Canada is investing in social, economic and infrastructure priorities to strengthen communities, support the middle-class, and position Northern Ontario for long-term success,” Bains said.

“Today’s announcement will create a stronger, more innovative and diversified local economy that delivers results for the people, businesses and communities of Greater Sudbury.”
