Federal minister makes funding announcements

Prentice also announced a $5,000 contribution from his ministry to the 36th annual Little NHL Tournament.

Prentice was also in town to cut the ribbon at the new Sudbury Conservative Party of Canada headquarters at the Cambrian Foundation.

As part of the announcement, Science North will receive $500,000 towards the development and construction of phase II of Dynamic Earth, and an additional $450,000 to create the Ends of the Earth - Polar Bears to Penguins travelling exhibit.

Ontario Library Service North will receive $499,965 to establish a shared computer network for northern libraries and Cambrian College will receive $233,250 to create the Federated School of Mines.

The City of Greater Sudbury will receive $81,832 to develop the Ontario Visual Heritage project while Laurentian University will receive $79,350 to establish its High Field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Laboratory.

The $5,000 given to the Little NHL Tournament will be used to support the cultural component of the event, which includes traditional teaching circles. The teaching circles are open to the public at no charge during the tournament at various arenas.

The tournament is in its 36th year and boasts more than 100 teams and more than 2,000 players. The Ojibway Cultural Foundation is organizing the event.
