Feds fund multiple Canada Day celebrations across Greater Sudbury

Serré announces more than $21,000 in funds for July 1 celebrations

Nickel Belt MP Marc Serré announced a total of $21,876 in funding for eight organizations in support of their respective Canada Day celebrations, which took place throughout Nickel Belt and Greater Sudbury on July 1. 

He made this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism.

The funding enabled the organizations to host Canada Day festivities and activities for the residents of all ages in their community:

• Municipality of French River - $4,000
• Municipality of Killarney - $4,000
• Lake Wahnapitae Home and Campers Association (Skead) - $2,400
• Northern Ontario Railroad Museum and Heritage Centre (Capreol) - $3,600
• Municipality of West Nipissing - $2,000
• Municipality of Markstay-Warren - $2,000
• Municipality of St.-Charles - $2,000
• Coniston Community Action Network - $1,876

The Celebrate Canada program continues to support festivities taking place from June 21 to July 1 throughout the country. This period of celebration features National Indigenous Peoples Day, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, Canadian Multiculturalism Day and Canada Day.

“Canada Day celebrations are filled with fun activities that boost our sense of community spirit. While we celebrate with friends, family and loved ones we honour what it means to truly be Canadian which includes enjoying beautiful landscapes, respecting one another, and celebrating our diverse backgrounds and culture," said Serré.

"Thank you to the incredible organizations and volunteers that made these events possible! Hoping everyone had a Happy Canada Day in Nickel Belt/ Greater Sudbury! Was great to meet so many residents during these exciting activities all across the region!”

The Government of Canada has funded nearly 1,500 projects and activities across the country through the Celebrate Canada program. Canadians will have many opportunities to come together in their community to celebrate what makes our country so remarkable.
