It is festival time in Greater Sudbury! From now on throughout the summer, a number of festivals occur almost every weekend for months thanks to the volunteers that give up their time and energy to ensure city residents enjoy themselves during the summer.

Last week, and continuing to Sunday, the very popular Italian festival got underway at the Caruso Club. Greater Sudbury residents got the chance to taste the fine foods from all over Italy at the Regions of Italy Food Fair Friday night. Hundreds packed the upper hall of the club, located on Haig Street, off of Lorne Street.

On the weekend, more food was served up, including sausages and porketta sandwiches, pasta (gnocchi, ravioli, tagliatelle, lasagne and spaghetti) and chicken dishes.

To work off all that food, participants could dance to the music of local musicians and Gruppo Bandistico di Fano from Italy. There was also a bocce tournament for mothers and daughters, and fathers and sons.

The Italian Festival officially got underway last Wednesday with opening ceremonies and amateur boxing teams from Italy and the Top Glove Boxing Academy. This is the 36th year for the festival.
