A fire in Sudbury is one of two new blazes reported in the Northeast Region by the Ministry of Natural Resources on May 16.

While the Sudbury fire has been upgraded to being held at 0.2 hectares in size, a fire in the Hearst district has been called out.

Crews have made good progress on existing fires in the region working with heavy equipment, air attack and Incident Management Teams in combined efforts, according to the MNR.

Meanwhile, the Restricted Fire Zone is still in effect for the Northeast Fire Region north of the French River including the French River Provincial Park. Portable gas stoves may be used for cooking and warmth, but must be used with extreme caution.

Provincial Parks may allow guests to have campfires during a Restricted Fire Zone period, but the MNR advises campers to contact the park superintendent for additional information.
