First day of school Sept. 4

The first day of school for all four local school boards will take place Sept. 4.

That's one day later later than usual, as Sept. 3 – the day after Labour Day – is a professional activity day. There will be no early dismissal on the first day of school in any of the school boards.

“We are always excited to see our new and returning students,” said Lyse-Anne Papineau, director of education with the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO), in a press release.

“With the support of our staff, parents and partners, we are committed to offering a quality French-language Catholic education to all of our students.”

CSCNO and the Rainbow District School Board have both put out press releases that include enrolment numbers for this year.

The CSCNO said it expects about 7,000 students in its 37 schools, which are located throughout a portion of Northeastern Ontario, including Greater Sudbury, the North Shore and Sault Ste. Marie.

It has about 5,200 elementary students and 1,800 secondary students.

The largest school board in Northern Ontario, the Rainbow District School Board has 13,455 students in Sudbury, Espanola, Manitoulin and Shining Tree. This includes 8.358 elementary students and 5,097 secondary students.
